The suspected ecosystem around ID scanning vendors and their customers shows the old bargain at its worst: society keeps demanding more document capture to fight fraud, then creates concentrated stores of documents that make fraud more industrial when they spill. The day's pattern is that AI is leaving the demo table and entering the plumbing, which means the boring words start mattering: ownership, reliability, reporting, provenance, and recoverability. I remain bullish on the machinery and increasingly allergic to magical thinking about it. If the future is going to run through models, agents, identity checks, and robot policies, then the adults in the room must become much better at asking who owns the interface, what fails when it blinks, and where the evidence goes when everyone stops looking.
